One of the few exceptions
Section 4 of the Consumer Contracts Act bans sales calls to consumers, but exempts calls about subscriptions to newspapers, weeklies and periodicals (retsinformation.dk). That is why newspapers and magazines can still use the phone to win subscribers in Denmark.
The exception has two limits:
- The Robinson list. If the person is on it, the call is unlawful unless the person has asked you to call (Consumer Ombudsman).
- The subscription only. The Ombudsman says a call that also sells or promotes other products becomes unlawful.
Call lists that live long
Subscription sales run in waves, and lists are reused: former subscribers, trial subscribers, people from a competition. The problem is that the Robinson list changes every quarter. Someone you could call in spring can be on the list by autumn.
On the annual plan, your saved lists are checked again each time the CPR register publishes a new Robinson list, and you are told if anyone has been added.
How we set it up
We connect to your subscription system or your dialer so every call list is checked before it is used. Every row shows what we found, and rows at or above the level you go by don't go through. If you don't choose, we use level 1, the most cautious. If an address can't be read, the row says so and is held back until someone has looked at it.
If an external call centre calls for you, the list can pass through us on the way, so both you and the call centre hold a check receipt.
